Four Seasons Resort: The Biltmore Santa Barbara

With a 100-plus year history under a number of owners and managers, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts acquired the property in 1987 and two years later, completed a massive restoration project costing $19-million dollars. This restoration maintained the original Spanish Colonial architecture while creating a lighter, airy ambiance. The resort is currently home to an elegant vibe and kid-friendly atmosphere with spacious rooms, a pool with a diving board and wading pool, and an array of activities from croquet and dance parties to s’mores nights and pool games. This 20-acre coastal property is about three miles off of Santa Barbara’s pier and an array of local restaurants and is only a 5-to-10 minute walk from the boutiques and cafes of Montecito. The Biltmore in Santa Barbara is one of the highest rated hotels in the area and one of the best known. Between its location and amenities, it really is an impressive place.

The Fess Parker – A DoubleTree by Hilton Resort

The Fess Parker is a 24-acre beachfront resort featuring guestrooms in mission-style buildings. Staying true to Santa Barbara architecture, visitors will get a true taste of the flavor of the area as they are only steps away from Santa Barbara’s many restaurants and wine-tasting shops. Canary – A Kimpton Hotel

Is one of the sweetest gems to be found among hotels in Santa Barbara. Named for Spain’s Canary Islands, it is one of the tallest hotels in the area overlooking quaint shops along Carrillo Street. This yellow, six-story building absolutely sings with brilliance as a rooftop pool and lounge offers remarkable views of the mountains and ocean for all guests to enjoy. Ornate furnishings, Spanish-tile bathrooms, and four-poster beds in guestrooms and streets make this hotel one of most luxurious of the Kimpton brand (not to mention the award-winning restaurant, Finch and Fork, can also be found here!) Perfect for touring the area, free bicycles allow easy access to the beach and the city. Canary is a perfect place to be to get a taste of Santa Barbara living.

El Capitan Canyon Resort

This is nature-lodging at its finiest and can be described as something between camping and hotel-staying. This resort has mastered the combination of rustic and luxurious, pampered comforts and natural ruggedness, community and isolation. Guests reside in private cabins arranged in a series of villages named after their location at the resort (i.e. Poolside Village, Creekside Village, etc). The cabins are drapped in safari tents backing up to fields where guests can be as active or as relaxed as they desire. Each cabin faces a private fire pit and picnic table, containing kitchenettes and soaking tubs in bathrooms to allow uninterrupted peace and privacy. A café and store at the base of the resort is open to all guests whenever lattes and lounging is needed. The best of both worlds can be realized in this full-service hotel doubling as a private getaway.  The dual-nature of Santa Barbara is rarely experienced in such a practical and tangible way as it is here.

Franciscan Inn

This is a family-run property tucked away in the side streets of Santa Barbara. Amid beaches and marinas, this inn is composed of what originally were three different hotels. When the current owner was just a girl in 1976, her family bought a 21-room, two-story inn. They combined this with a ranch house from the 1920s and neighboring pay-by-the-hour motel to create a 53-room, U-shaped hotel. The rooms of the stable are large and spacious and the inn and motel sides have traditional spaces. The property as a whole is decorated with original art by local artists and everything harmonizes to fit the architecture and beach-vibe of the Santa Barbara area. Both the convenient location and spacious rooms bring guests back again and again to this quaint spot.

Harbor View Inn

Staying true to its name, Harbo View Inn has stunning and picturesque views of Stearns Wharf and West Beach. It lies directly across from the harbor and beach, providing opportunities for sailing and boat charters and visiting the wharf’s aquarium. This exciting location truly is at the center of activity and often the train can be heard from its walls. The rooms maintain a juxtaposition of old and new and the comfortable rooms are conveniently found on this waterfront location. The accommodations provided are excellent for weekend trips and its prime location is difficult to match within city limits.
